Packing for College
I have already been through this before, but I return to college Sunday and have not packed a single thing. I have, however, had several episodes of standing miserably in front of my closet with a lost, confused look clouding my face. That fact is, my entire wardrobe will not be fitting into my tiny closet. And that's okay, I can accept that. But I just cannot be expected to narrow down what to bring and what to leave. Would a mother be expected to choose between children to take on vacation?..

Beware of Crocs
Crocs and other soft-soled shoes can get stuck in the teeth of escalators and cause minor to severe injuries. Sandals, tennis shoes, flip flops and other "shoe entrapments" have been yanked the bowels of those moving stairs. A few horrifying accounts describe Crocs and immitation Crocs on the feet of children becoming stuck as the escalator stairs converge and causing toes to be ripped off or mutilated to the point of needing amputation...

The Murky Depths
That's where I'll be looking for my wardrobe colours this autumn. I shall be replacing (occasionally) my bright tights for muddy coloured ones to combine with hues of pewter, ochre, slushy green and rust. I shall mix lavender with orange or aubergine with pale blue. I shall look to the back of the Pantone book for my colour inspiration...

One of our best friends works at a big magazine, and our running joke is her assistant. The girl is so ensembley challenged that she shows up to work in summer's most exposed trends: A giant turban; a babydoll dress so big, it looks like an L.L. Bean tent; white Ray Bans with jewels. "I'm always so fascinated by her faux pas that I find myself staring," confesses my friend, "and so usually, I'll say, 'Oh, I love your outfit' so I can move in and get a closer look."...
